Chapter Meeting
Chapter Meeting
February 19, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
We’re having a car parade!
Join us this Saturday from 12:30 – 2:00 pm for a UA faculty car parade to support the core mission of the university: education!
We’ll rally at Lot 9 by InfoCision Stadium on E. Exchange Street, between S. Union and Spicer. Route maps will be distributed to participants at the event.
Akron-AAUP is advocating for shared sacrifice during this crisis to ensure high-quality education at Akron is prioritized and sustainable. Let’s show the administration that we are here for our students — after all, students are here for us. The educational mission needs to be protected!
During our parade we need to be visible – and loud! Write on your windows or make big signs and tape them to the inside windows of your car. Decorate your car with balloons or streamers. Bring noise makers — kazoos, pots and pans (and someone to bang on them!), or just get ready to blow your horn in support of our students and the central mission of The University of Akron.
We can’t wait to see you Saturday!
In Solidarity,
The Communications Committee of Akron-AAUP
P.S. For more information, please read our position paper on athletic spending, and sign our open letter to protect education at UA.
Please join us July 6 from 4-5 pm for a virtual meeting with the Negotiating Team (NT). The team will give an overview of negotiations so far and answer your questions, as far as we are able. Please note that under the conditions of the NDA the NT signed in order to have access to the tentative list of bargaining faculty layoffs, the team cannot disclose any information about the list, including names, programs, or numbers.
You will receive a WebEx invitation from Pam Schulze prior to the event. Please note that you MUST REGISTER for this bargaining unit faculty only event. We advise you to register as soon as possible to allow us to process your registration in time for the 4pm start time.
Will you help the Negotiating Team by standing with them before they go into their negotiating session on Thursday, July 2nd? We need you there from 1 – 2 pm.
We are asking that you help demonstrate our collective strength and resolve by congregating at the northeast side of the Student Union, at the entrance closest to Buchtel Hall (this is the entrance both teams use to enter the building). Ward 8 Council Representative Shammas Malik is our featured speaker, and you’ll also hear from Chapter President Pam Schulze and Katie Stoynoff, our Chief Negotiator.
Wear your Akron-AAUP t-shirts (or white or yellow clothing). Wear your AAUP buttons if you have them; we’ll have some available at the event. We will have Akron-AAUP t-shirts available for a $10 suggested donation. Feel free to bring signs with words of encouragement for the team, or use ours.

In light of the health risks of gathering in large groups, we ask that you please maintain a safe distance from each other, at least six feet, and wear masks. We request that you leave a clear path for both teams to walk through. Please also note that the Student Union is not accessible for use by anyone except the negotiating teams — you will not be permitted to enter the building for any reason.
This rally is intended to express support for our negotiating team as they work to protect students and keep academics at the core of the University’s mission. Please keep any comments you make, either orally or on a placard, positive and respectful. We ask that you not direct any expressions of hostility or disdain toward the University’s negotiating team as they enter the building.
Bring a friend, share on social media, be there in support of our students, and thank you in advance for spreading the word to your colleagues — we need your help.
Can’t attend in real life, but still want to show your support? Join us virtually by posting a picture of yourself with one of our signs (or make your own) on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. So that it will be seen across all of our social media sites, please use the hashtags: #protectourstudents, #Faculty4Students, #ISupportMyNT and #AkronAAUPSolidarity. Feel free to come up with some of your own hashtags and posts to use as well! Don’t forget to tag us in your post with @akronaaup so it shows up on our pages.
Always remember that our power comes from standing together.
