RALLY FOR UA FACULTY
RALLY FOR UA FACULTY
July 15, 2020
All hands on deck! Join us for a rally and press conference before the University of Akron Board of Trustees meeting. Our event is:
WEDNESDAY, JULY 15th @ NOON.
We’ll meet at the Buchtel Hall steps for the press conference, which will feature Pam Schulze, President of Akron-AAUP. Additional speakers are TBA.
Wear your Akron-AAUP t-shirts (or white or yellow clothing). Wear your AAUP buttons if you have them. We will have Akron-AAUP t-shirts for sale for $10 at the event. Bring signs in support of the academic mission of UA.
In light of the health risks to gathering in large groups, we ask that you please maintain a safe distance from each other of at least six feet and wear masks. Please also note that the Student Union is not accessible for use — we will not be permitted to enter the building for any reason.
Bring a friend, feel free to share on social media, and thank you in advance for spreading the word to your colleagues!
In Solidarity,
The Communications Committee of Akron-AAUP
P.S. Thank you to all who joined in our car parade on Saturday! We had over 50 cars participate and we truly appreciate you coming out to support our efforts. We also got some great coverage from WKSU this morning which you can listen to HERE.
Please join us July 6 from 4-5 pm for a virtual meeting with the Negotiating Team (NT). The team will give an overview of negotiations so far and answer your questions, as far as we are able. Please note that under the conditions of the NDA the NT signed in order to have access to the tentative list of bargaining faculty layoffs, the team cannot disclose any information about the list, including names, programs, or numbers.
You will receive a WebEx invitation from Pam Schulze prior to the event. Please note that you MUST REGISTER for this bargaining unit faculty only event. We advise you to register as soon as possible to allow us to process your registration in time for the 4pm start time.
Will you help the Negotiating Team by standing with them before they go into their negotiating session on Thursday, July 2nd? We need you there from 1 – 2 pm.
We are asking that you help demonstrate our collective strength and resolve by congregating at the northeast side of the Student Union, at the entrance closest to Buchtel Hall (this is the entrance both teams use to enter the building). Ward 8 Council Representative Shammas Malik is our featured speaker, and you’ll also hear from Chapter President Pam Schulze and Katie Stoynoff, our Chief Negotiator.
Wear your Akron-AAUP t-shirts (or white or yellow clothing). Wear your AAUP buttons if you have them; we’ll have some available at the event. We will have Akron-AAUP t-shirts available for a $10 suggested donation. Feel free to bring signs with words of encouragement for the team, or use ours.

In light of the health risks of gathering in large groups, we ask that you please maintain a safe distance from each other, at least six feet, and wear masks. We request that you leave a clear path for both teams to walk through. Please also note that the Student Union is not accessible for use by anyone except the negotiating teams — you will not be permitted to enter the building for any reason.
This rally is intended to express support for our negotiating team as they work to protect students and keep academics at the core of the University’s mission. Please keep any comments you make, either orally or on a placard, positive and respectful. We ask that you not direct any expressions of hostility or disdain toward the University’s negotiating team as they enter the building.
Bring a friend, share on social media, be there in support of our students, and thank you in advance for spreading the word to your colleagues — we need your help.
Can’t attend in real life, but still want to show your support? Join us virtually by posting a picture of yourself with one of our signs (or make your own) on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. So that it will be seen across all of our social media sites, please use the hashtags: #protectourstudents, #Faculty4Students, #ISupportMyNT and #AkronAAUPSolidarity. Feel free to come up with some of your own hashtags and posts to use as well! Don’t forget to tag us in your post with @akronaaup so it shows up on our pages.
Always remember that our power comes from standing together.
As negotiations are intensifying, the negotiating team could really use your support. Please post a picture of yourself showing a sign of solidarity on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Please tag us (@akronaaup) and use the hashtags: #SaveOurStudents, #Faculty4Students, #AkronAAUPSolidarity, and #ISupportMyNT. Feel free to come up with some of your own to use in addition.
Here are our signs. Please make this go viral. Thanks for your support.
