Dear Colleagues,
With you, we at the Akron-AAUP heard President Miller’s announcement to the university and community today. These are challenging times indeed, but we want you to know that Akron-AAUP remains committed to protecting faculty rights and promoting meaningful shared governance. We have offered to work with the administration and other shared governance bodies to help set the university on the right path while prioritizing our students and maintaining the academic mission of the university. We believe that collaboration and shared governance are always the way to solve problems. They are even more essential now.
The administration has committed to making cuts to athletics and administrative costs as well as shrinking the physical footprint of the university. We support these decisions, as difficult as they are. As we learn more about the actions that the administration is proposing, we will have more to share. Until then,
