Today our hearts broke.
We stood witness as the University of Akron Board of Trustees – those entrusted with the care and well-being of our University – voted to fire 96 bargaining unit faculty, 1 law faculty member, 60 staff members and 21 contract professionals.
The people represented by these numbers and categories are our colleagues and our friends. They share our passion for excellence in higher education, student success, service, and scholarship. They have enriched our intellectual community and brightened our days.
They have made a difference to thousands of UA students.
Our hearts go out to our colleagues who, through no fault of their own, will have their time at the University end so unceremoniously and with so little notice.
We, our students, and the University have suffered a grievous loss.
