Emergency Faculty Positions
On October 21st, President Scarborough announced the approval of a few critical faculty hires. In his announcement, the president expressed his intention to tie hiring decisions to the normal budget and planning process. Due to the continuing decline in faculty numbers many departments with dire needs for replacement lines requested that funding for some positions be released immediately so that search processes can begin. The process to determine the most critical needs resulted in only two tenure track positions, nine non-tenure track positions, and an increase in funding for part-time faculty. Six administrative positions were also approved.
This is a start, of course, but these initial faculty positions are wholly inadequate to meet current and critical needs. Read more here.
